Our existence is based on the system of cause and effect. What happens today is a result of yesterday. The result of yesterday is the day before. And that system has been in effect for thirteen billion years. How can we, with our ‘intelligence’ bypass the simple logic of pinpointing one moment and claiming it to be the only and complete cause of something? Surely, we can’t be fooled into thinking that the cause of World War II was the decade before. The people who want war can and will pick any reason they want. We don’t have to believe it. Especially when it flies in the face of very, very simple logic.
So, what’s going on in the world? It is not somebody’s fault or something’s fault. It is thirteen billion years of us following a certain path that would inevitably lead to this. Collectively. Each of us is the cause and the effect. Pointing fingers is a defence mechanism we have been taught, to avoid what we have been taught feels unpleasant. Taught by people trying to control us so they can have a bigger slice of the pie. Divide and conquer. It is as un-sensible as feeling embarrassed for a tree. But what is the bigger problem is it prevents us from doing anything about the situation – in the Ukraine, Middle-east, the residential school fallout, treatment of women, foreigners. Finding someone else to blame is a time-honoured smoke screen of the greedy.
Wake up. We have choices as to what we think. Stand back and look. We don’t have to be where we are.
We can change the direction of the road. It will take a long time. But we have choices of what we think and what we want to do and what we want to teach our children., Respect and appreciation of others and other things. Love generosity forgiveness. We have a choice.
